Every summer, around the ancient festival of Lammas, people of all ages and from many walks of life, gather together for 10 days and collectively create a safe and caring community, living closely with nature. This forms the energetic structure in which a variety of workshops, ceremonies and celebrations take place, and is the spirit of Oak Dragon Camps.

2008 brings the Wise Earth Camp, an opportunity to connect with the natural environment and spirits of place, with a focus on establishing a strong connection with the land.

We will build a shrine structure together as an altar for earth healing work and ceremony, then weave our intentions for living more lightly upon this earth into the magical and creative projects of the week. There will be a sweat lodge, a theatre group, well-being dome, eisteddfod, powwow, and a feast.

The week will include a series of workshops on ancestral skills – using natural materials and the resources of the land to practice ancient crafts such as basket weaving, green wood work, carving, bows and arrows, birch besoms and making and using natural paints and dyes.

Children will enjoy their own workshops each morning connecting with the same themes and materials.

With the nourishment of community we will support and witness each other in our steps to care more deeply for the environment and honour our commitments towards greater sustainability in all aspects of our lives.

During the camp there will be times of stillness and meditation, time for nourishing the body, through physical practices, healing therapies and treatments, time for dancing, singing and celebrating together.

This year we will be creating a council of elders within the camp structure, drawing on the wisdom and ancient traditions to encourage the sustainability of Oak Dragon for future generations.

The camp fee does not include the provision for food. Eating arrangements are decided within each circle.

The official camp opening is during the morning of Saturday 5th August, However it is usual for people to arrive the previous Friday so that they have time to pitch their tents and familiarise themselves with their circle and the camp layout and facilities.
